Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts has partnered with PillarRx to offer a cost-share assistance program that lowers your monthly copayment on eligible specialty prescription medications.

Upon enrollment, your out-of-pocket costs for eligible medications will be reduced and range between $0 and $35. The manufacturer sets the amount and depends on their program requirements and the specific medication.

Enrollment in the program is voluntary. However, you must actively opt-in if you wish to participate or opt-out if you don’t wish to participate. If you opt-out you will be responsible for up to 30 percent of the cost of the medication.

How Does it Work?

PillarRx will contact members who qualify for this program.

The company uses coupons from manufacturers to cover most or all of a member’s out-of-pocket costs for eligible medications. In most cases, medications will need to be filled through an approved Specialty Pharmacy.

Who is Eligible to Participate?

Members who are enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan and are prescribed an eligible specialty medication can participate.

To view the list of eligible medications, sign in to your MyBlue account at bluecrossma.org, select Cost-Share Assistance under My Medications, then choose See Eligible Medications. For medications that are not included on this list, your standard copayment will apply.

Enrollment is optional. However, if you do not elect to participate, the cost of your eligible specialty medication will be higher.

Get Started

If you are prescribed an eligible medication, you will be contacted by a PillarRx care team coordinator to help facilitate enrollment in the manufacturer programs.

Call PillarRx if you do not receive a call or if you have any questions about the program at 636-614-3128 (TTY: 711), Monday through Friday, 8 am to 7 pm EST.

They will:

Provide details about your current costs and answer questions about the program
Enroll you in the program or work with the drug manufacturer(s) to secure the savings for you and/or your family
Work with your specialty pharmacy to facilitate refills and manage your negotiated out-of-pocket costs
Manage claims and ensure that your financial assistance is processing as expected
Work with you and your family/caregiver to manage ongoing communication with the drug manufacturer(s), specialty pharmacy, and your health plan
